Learn Piano at The PPS

Our Approach to Teaching Piano

Piano instruction at The Piano Prep School focuses on the “whole musician,” providing comprehensive instruction, fluency in reading, a natural approach to playing, and most importantly, an emphasis on sound!

Private Lessons provide a “classical foundation,” but are not limited to classical music! Lessons explore a wide range of topics and genres based on the student’s goals. Our teachers are adept at creating a customized approach to learning piano.

Group Piano options include Piano Explorers (5–6 yrs), The Beginning Piano Program (6–9 yrs) and Piano Connection Classes (9 yrs+). Please visit our Classes page for more information on these opportunities!

Whether you choose private or group study, our piano students build a strong musical foundation AND have fun!

Instrument Prerequisite

Prior to scheduling, students must have an acoustic piano, or a full-length, weighted-key digital piano in home. If you have the space and budget, we always recommend an acoustic (“real”) piano, as they provide the most authentic experience and support the development of proper technique from the very first lesson.

If you prefer a digital piano, please ensure that it is full-length (88 keys), and fully weighted. Touch-sensitive or partially-weighted keyboards do not support our curriculum. Some models of digital pianos are “cabinet style,” offering a look that is similar to a sturdy piece of furniture with attached pedals and a matching bench. Other models are more portable and require purchasing an adjustable X-brace, as well as a damper pedal and adjustable bench.

We recognize purchasing a piano or digital piano is an investment. Please feel free to contact us so we may assist in setting your student up for success!
